At Conneely Group, we were proud to participate in the recent Canary Wharf Contractors Dragon Boat Race, an exciting annual event that brings together companies from across the construction industry for a day of spirited competition, camaraderie, and community fundraising. The Dragon Boat Race is not just about testing strength and teamwork on the water, it’s about raising money for important causes and strengthening the bonds that connect our industry.
This year’s event was no exception, delivering a brilliant atmosphere and a chance to contribute to something bigger than ourselves.
While our expertise is firmly rooted in building structures rather than paddling boats, our Conneely Group crew embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination. Every race was approached with the same commitment and teamwork that define our construction projects, even if keeping the paddles in sync proved trickier than anticipated!
A special mention goes to Tony O’Halloran and Paul McCormack, who made sure the team stayed hydrated throughout the day. Whether or not that helped our paddling rhythm is up for debate, but it certainly kept spirits high. Although our finishing positions may not have rivalled our successes on site, the experience highlighted the importance of unity, perseverance, and having fun as a team. With plenty of laughs along the way, we’ve already got our sights set on returning stronger (and perhaps a little more coordinated) next year..
The race was hosted against the iconic backdrop of Canary Wharf, where Conneely Group has played a key role in shaping landmark projects. Our contributions to major developments in this area, including drylining, SFS (Steel Framing Systems), and façade works – have helped define one of London’s most dynamic districts.
Taking part in an event here, alongside our industry peers, reinforced the strong sense of community that drives progress across Canary Wharf. Just as collaboration is vital on our construction projects, it was equally essential on the water, reminding us of the value of working together toward a shared goal.
Beyond the fun and competition, the Dragon Boat Race serves a greater purpose by raising money for charities that make a real difference in people’s lives. Conneely Group is committed to supporting such initiatives, using opportunities like this to give back while bringing our team together outside the construction environment.
We are grateful to Canary Wharf Contractors, and all involved in organising such a memorable day. Events like this highlight the importance of teamwork, resilience, and community spirit. These are strong values that we carry with us both on and off site.
We look forward to taking up the paddles again next year, returning with renewed energy, fresh tactics, and the same enthusiasm that drives every project we undertake.
